BOOK WEEK PARADE

To bring a close to a fantastic book week, the book parade was held in our School hall. We had an array of different characters and the Senior Syndicate went all out with creative costumes with many Teachers and Parents commenting on how many Students dressed up and that they really had gone all out for it!

Well done Seniors, we were very proud of all those who participated. Enjoy the selection of photographs below and be sure to comment!

A question will be put onto a post with the above picture, you will then need to answer it in the comments section. When the challenge closes, all the correct answers will be put into the draw to win a prize.

Easy as. Some conditions do apply though.
You must be a follower of this blog, you must write the correct answer in the comment box of this post, and you can only enter the once with the correct answer.

Right, now for the fun stuff. Challenge question number one - What is the name of the website recommended if you need to practice your spelling? Full web address please.

Your prize? A medium carton of Hot Chips from the bakery!

Find the answer quick - competition closes Tuesday 29th May 2012!

Visit to Billy Graham's Gym

The Senior Syndicate was lucky enough to be invited down to Naenae Boxing academy by none other than motivational speaker Billy Graham!

From the moment we arrived we were all in awe of the amazing things he had accomplished. The ring you see in the above picture was Mohammad Ali's ring - complete with blood spatter too! We were shown all the different pictures he displayed on his walls of people he sees as inspirational.

He talk to us about how to treat everyone as if they are they most important person in the world and you should never burn your bridges. He also shared with us a little poem his grandmother told him "there's always good in the worst of us, there's always bad in the worst of us, it doesn't do us any good, to be nasty to the rest of us."

He certainly was inspirational and gave us some food for thought!

Basic Science Experiments

To start off the term, we completed rotations of simple Science experiments in our classrooms. Some of the experiments included 'Does it Float or Sink?' 'Can bluetack float on water?' 'Invisible ink' and 'Gloop' to name a few.

It was a great way to kick off our interest in how awesome Science can be. Below you can check out different pictures from our experiments. Keep scrolling down and you can see the links we have looked at as well.

Change Matters experiments

Below are the links to some of the Science experiments we have looked at so far during our 'Change Matters' unit.

The first is the Mentos and Coca Cola' experiment, where two guys put a large amount of mentos lollies into various bottles of cocoa cola. Can you remember why the reactions happen?

The next is probably one of the coolest experiments ever. You've heard the effect helium has on your voice, but what about sulfur hexafloride? This gas is six times denser than air and gives an awesome sound effect to your voice!

The final experiment we watched was the dry ice experiment. Who knew air could freeze and unfreeze before your very eyes!

Keep coming back here for more links to things we watch and/or find during our change matters unit!
